Violist Julia Chu-Ying Hu’s recital with pianist Justina Lee

“Phantasies, Romances and Elegies” is the program title for
this recital. Ms.Hu and Ms. Lee are going to present a great selection of
Phantasies, Romances and Elegies from 19th century repertoire to 20th
century compositions, including Faure, Debussy, Glazunov, Bruch, Reger, Vaughan
Williams, Martinu, Bowen, Hindemith and Britten.
Ms.Hu currently is the Doctoral candidate of Music Art of CUNY-Graduate
Center Music Department. She received her Master of Music and Professional
Studies from Manhattan School of Music where she was full-scholarship recipient
and served as Manhattan Symphony and Chamber Sinfonia viola principal. Before
moving to U.S, Ms.Hu had her music education in Taiwan, she received
her Bachelor of Music from Taiwan Soochow University. Ms.Hu was
also the winner of Artist International in 2000 and gave her New York debut at
Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2001. She participated various
international music festivals, including Verbier Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein
Orchestra Academy, International Orchestra Institute in Attergau and Sarasota
Music Festival. As the founding member of Nuance Chamber Ensemble, Ms. Hu
played with this group since 2002 and had concretized and toured in New York, Boston and Taiwan. In 2004, Nuance
Chamber Ensemble was chosen by Formosa music
society to perform at Weill Recital Hall.Ms.Hu is also the member of New York
Viola Society. Besides being a professional performer, Ms.Hu is also an
enthusiastic and experienced teacher, she has been teaching both viola and violin
in New Jersey Palisades School of Music, Mustard Seed School and her
private studio in Queens, New York. Her students
are selected to be principal or members of All State Orchestra Festival, Long
Island Strings, Manhattan School of Music summer festival and others. Ms.Hu is currently student of the associate
viola principal of New York Philharmonic Irene Breslaw.
